Capstone Projects
Build complete AI products end to end
Put everything together in guided builds of complete AI products — an AI feature for a SaaS app, a RAG knowledge app, a multimodal expense app, an AI-powered internal tool, a content product with evals, and a no-code AI product — then plan what's next.

Capstone 1: An AI Feature for a SaaS App
Add AI ticket triage to a help-desk app: classification, summaries, and drafted replies with structured outputs, evals, cost tracking, and a staged rollout.
- 14.216 min
Capstone 2: A RAG Knowledge Base App
Build a cited Q&A app over a document collection: ingestion, hybrid search, reranking, grounded answers, permission filters, and a retrieval eval suite.
- 14.316 min
Capstone 3: A Multimodal Expense App
Snap a receipt or speak a note and get a categorized expense: vision extraction, speech-to-text, validation, review UI, and a media pipeline.
- 14.416 min
Capstone 4: An AI-Powered Internal Tool
Build an internal analytics assistant that answers questions over company data with safe natural-language queries, charts, and an audit log.
- 14.514 min
Capstone 5: A Content Product with Evals
Ship a product-description generator for online stores with brand voice controls, model-graded quality checks, batch generation, and usage-based billing.
- 14.615 min
Capstone 6: A No-Code AI Product
Build and launch a lead-qualification assistant without writing code — intake form, AI scoring, automated follow-up, and a review queue.

How to keep your skills current as models change, ideas for your next AI product, and where to go deeper — including building agents.
About this module
A capstone project is a complete, guided build that pulls a whole course together. Instead of one technique in isolation, you build a working product with every part that real users depend on: the model calls, the data model, the validation, the evaluation suite, the cost tracking, and the plan for shipping it safely. These six projects are where the patterns from the earlier modules stop being separate lessons and start being one way of working.
Capstones matter because the hard part of AI products is rarely the first prompt. It's the seams: retrieval that misses an exact error code, an extraction that is schema-valid but wrong, a cost line that grows faster than revenue, a rollout nobody can reverse. Each project here is designed around those seams, with real, type-checked TypeScript and the trade-offs explained, so you finish with a product you understand well enough to change.
The module covers six builds. You'll add AI ticket triage to a help-desk SaaS with classification, summaries, drafted replies, evals, and a staged rollout. You'll build a cited question-answering app over a document collection with hybrid search, reranking, and permission filters. You'll turn receipt photos, PDFs, and voice notes into validated expenses with a review screen. You'll build an internal analytics assistant that answers questions over company data with safe queries, charts, and an audit log. You'll ship a product-description generator with brand voice controls, model-graded quality checks, batch generation, and usage-based billing. And on the no-code track, you'll launch a lead-qualification assistant without writing code.
Each capstone links back to the lessons it relies on rather than repeating them, so you can work through the builds in any order and jump back for depth when you need it. The module ends with guidance on keeping your skills current as models change and where to go next, including building agents.
Questions about Capstone Projects
What are good AI projects to build for a portfolio?
Pick projects that solve a real workflow and show the parts beyond the model call: a RAG app with citations and retrieval evals, an extraction app with validation and a review screen, or an AI feature added to an existing product with cost tracking and a staged rollout. Evaluation results and clear failure handling impress more than a flashy demo.
How do I build a RAG app with citations?
Ingest and chunk your documents, embed them, and retrieve candidates with hybrid vector and keyword search. Rerank the candidates, then pass the best passages to the model with citations enabled so each claim points to an exact source passage. Treat an answer with no citations as 'not covered,' and measure retrieval separately from generation.
Can an LLM read receipts accurately?
Current vision models read most clear receipts well, but faded, long, handwritten, or foreign-currency receipts still cause errors. Production apps pair model extraction with validation in code (totals, dates, policy limits, duplicates) and a review screen that highlights doubtful fields, so mistakes are caught before anyone is reimbursed.
How long does it take to build an AI feature into an existing app?
A working prototype of a focused feature such as ticket classification can take a day or two. Making it shippable takes longer: a labeled eval set, business rules in code, cost tracking, background processing, and a shadow-mode rollout to see how it behaves on real traffic before users see it.
Do I need to know how to code to complete these capstone projects?
Five of the six capstones are code builds in TypeScript and assume you're comfortable with JavaScript. The sixth is a complete no-code build, a lead-qualification assistant made with automation and AI tools, written for people who don't program.
